KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — The Kershaw County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Caiden Miles McGuff, a 16-year-old student at Camden High School, who tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon, July 29, 2025.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Ridgeway Road, a rural stretch known for its curves and low visibility. Caiden was behind the wheel of a 2004 Ford pickup truck when the vehicle veered off the left side of the road, struck a utility box, overturned, and continued until it collided with a tree. The force of the crash caused the truck to roll completely, resulting in catastrophic damage.
Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported Caiden to MUSC-Kershaw Health, where despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A female passenger in the vehicle was also injured and taken to the hospital. While her identity and condition have not been released, authorities confirmed that she survived the crash and is receiving medical care.
