With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Duane Slayton, a beloved member of the Cornville, Arizona community, who lost his battle with cancer on July 21, 2025. Though cancer claimed his body, it never broke his spirit.
Duane spent his life pouring into others. He was more than a friend or a neighbor—he was a lifeline. Through decades of work running halfway houses, Duane offered countless individuals the chance to reclaim their lives from addiction. Many found sobriety, purpose, and hope because of his relentless compassion and service. He didn’t just help people get clean—he helped them live again.
Now, in the wake of his passing, his community is coming together to give back to the man who gave so much.
Duane’s long-time friend and roommate, Jim, stood by him every step of the way—driving him to chemotherapy, specialist appointments, and offering round-the-clock care, often at great personal and financial cost.
A GoFundMe has been launched to help cover medical expenses, funeral costs, and to support Jim as he navigates life after loss. If Duane ever touched your life—or if his story touches your heart—we ask you to consider donating or sharing his fundraiser:
