Ryan Kade Delahunt Identified as Man Fatally Shot by Police in New Braunfels Incident

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Authorities have identified 33-year-old Ryan Kade Delahunt as the man fatally shot by police during an officer-involved shooting over the weekend at the Sage Apartments on West San Antonio Street.

According to the New Braunfels Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance call involving a man and a woman. Upon arrival, they encountered Delahunt, who was reportedly armed with a sharp weapon. Police say he became aggressive and began lunging at officers, prompting two of them to discharge their weapons.

Delahunt was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported during the incident.

As is standard protocol, both officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation. The New Braunfels Police Department is working alongside the Texas Rangers to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting, including whether the use of deadly force was justified.

While the identities of the officers have not been made public, officials confirmed they have a combined four years of service with the department. Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the disturbance that prompted the 911 call, nor the relationship between Delahunt and the woman involved.

The incident has drawn public attention, and officials are urging the community to allow the investigation to proceed before forming conclusions. It remains unclear whether body camera footage of the incident exists or if it will be released.

As the investigation continues, police say they are committed to transparency and accountability while gathering all facts related to the shooting. More information is expected to be released in the coming days.
