WARRENVILLE, S.C. — The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating the accidental death of 56-year-old Benny Clayton a Warrenville resident, who died Tuesday night while working with a vehicle on a flatbed car hauler trailer.
Authorities responded to a call around 9:28 p.m. to a residence in the 200 block of Hillvale Street. When emergency crews arrived, they discovered 56-year-old Benny Clayton trapped beneath a vehicle. Officials say Clayton had been in the process of repositioning or unloading a truck from the trailer when it suddenly shifted, causing the vehicle to fall and pin him underneath.
Emergency responders attempted to assist but confirmed that Clayton had succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:05 p.m. The cause of death has been determined to be blunt-force trauma, consistent with the impact from the falling vehicle.
At this time, the Aiken County Coroner’s Office has stated that no autopsy is planned, but the investigation remains ongoing to confirm all contributing factors. Officials have not disclosed whether any mechanical issues or lack of safety equipment played a role in the accident.
Clayton’s tragic death serves as a somber reminder of the dangers associated with working around heavy vehicles, particularly when loading, unloading, or repositioning them. Such incidents highlight the importance of safety precautions and equipment inspections during vehicle transport and maintenance.
The coroner’s office will continue its investigation to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the accident. No additional information has been released at this time.
