WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A tragic crash early Thursday morning claimed the life of a 31-year-old motorcyclist on US 52, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department. The victim was identified as Carl Andrew Norton
The accident occurred at approximately 6:43 a.m. near South Main Street, where investigators say Carl Andrew Norton was traveling southbound on his motorcycle. For reasons that remain under investigation, Norton’s motorcycle veered off the road to the left and struck a guardrail.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but Norton was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
The crash caused significant traffic delays, with a lane closed in both directions on US 52 for several hours. All lanes were fully reopened by 10:06 a.m. on Thursday.
The Winston-Salem Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is actively investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal crash. At this time, no further details have been released.
