ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — A fatal crash in Ector County claimed the life of a 43-year old Genaro Rocha-Hernandez late Tuesday night, July 30, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of W. Apple Street and U.S. Highway 385. DPS reports that Genaro Rocha-Hernandez was driving southbound on US 385 with a passenger when he failed to stop at a red light and collided with a Ford F-250 traveling eastbound on W. Apple Street.
Rocha-Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
His passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford F-250 was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation as DPS continues to gather details surrounding the incident.
Officials are once again urging drivers to obey traffic signals and always wear a seat belt, as these simple precautions can mean the difference between life and death.
