Deadly Shooting at Avalon Pier Under Investigation in Kill Devil Hills

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that took place Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of Avalon Pier, a well-known location on the Outer Banks.

According to the victim’s mother, her 19-year-old son was shot and killed in the incident. Kill Devil Hills police later confirmed that one person died and another was injured during the shooting.

Shortly after the incident, law enforcement identified a suspect and stopped his vehicle in the nearby town of Southern Shores. The individual was taken into custody without further incident. As of now, police have not released the names of the victims or the suspect.

The second victim, who sustained injuries during the shooting, was airlifted to a medical facility in Norfolk, Virginia, for further treatment. Their condition has not been publicly disclosed.

Police believe this was an isolated incident and say there is no ongoing threat to the public. Multiple agencies, including the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), are actively involved in the investigation.
