WASHINGTON PARK, IL — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 46-year-old man early Thursday morning in the Metro East area. The Illinois State Police (ISP) responded to a call from the 5000 block of Warren Avenue, near Kingshighway in Washington Park, shortly before 5:40 a.m. on July 30, 2025.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. later identified the victim as Demario D. Walker. According to the coroner’s report, Walker was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5:14 a.m. His last known address was also on the same block, indicating that the fatal shooting may have occurred at or near his residence.

Due to the nature of the crime, Washington Park police requested assistance from the Illinois State Police. The ISP’s Division of Criminal Investigation is now leading the case and actively processing the scene for evidence.

At this time, no suspect information has been released, and authorities have not indicated whether Walker was targeted or if the shooting was random. A possible motive remains unknown, and no persons of interest have been publicly identified. Investigators continue to work diligently, canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with residents, and searching for surveillance footage from nearby properties.

The incident has left the Washington Park community shaken, as concerns over gun violence in the area continue to mount. Residents are calling for accountability and justice for Walker, whose sudden and violent death has left loved ones grieving and searching for answers.

Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information related to the shooting — including sightings of suspicious activity in the early morning hours — to come forward. Tips can be submitted to the Illinois State Police or the Washington Park Police Department.

As the investigation continues, officials have pledged to follow every lead to bring those responsible to justice. Further updates will be shared as new information becomes available.
