Amherst police have identified the woman found dead at a local motel on Tuesday as 27-year-old Emmeya Sims, a resident of Amherst.
Authorities say Sims was killed on July 29 while staying at 1951 Niagara Falls Boulevard. The suspected attacker, 37-year-old Daniel Negron of Buffalo, is currently in custody in Erie, Pennsylvania, on an unrelated charge.
An arrest warrant for second-degree murder has been issued for Negron in connection with Sims’ death.
According to WJET YourErie, Negron fled to a church in Erie Tuesday evening and was reportedly armed with a knife. Police say he attempted to harm himself before being taken into custody.
