ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating a tragic crash that claimed the lives of two Albany residents, John Horton, 82, and Le-Ann Horton, 72, on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on U.S. Route 50 near Fisher Road. According to OSHP, a state trooper observed a traffic violation and was attempting to catch up to the offending vehicle when the collision occurred.
As the trooper approached, a westbound Toyota sedan attempted to turn left across the eastbound lanes onto Fisher Road. The sedan was struck during the maneuver, resulting in a fatal crash.
John and Le-Ann Horton, the two occupants of the Toyota, were pronounced dead at the scene. The trooper involved in the crash was taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
