VIDOR, Texas – A tragic incident claimed the life of 59-year-old Lawrence Claypool on Sunday after he was struck while cycling along FM 105 in Orange County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 11:51 a.m. as a Ford F-150 was traveling south on FM 105 near FM 1132. Investigators believe Claypool, who was riding on the improved shoulder of the roadway, crossed in front of the oncoming truck and was struck by the passenger-side mirror.
Emergency responders transported Claypool to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver and a passenger in the Ford were not injured in the collision. Authorities have not indicated that any charges have been filed, and the incident remains under investigation.
Claypool, a resident of Vidor, is being remembered as a passionate cyclist and member of the local community whose life was cut tragically short.
