Memphis Teen Shot in Face: Suspect Arrested for Gun Possession and Neglect
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 15-year-old girl is recovering from a critical gunshot wound after being accidentally shot in the face, and police have arrested a 22-year-old man believed to be responsible for the incident.
According to the Memphis Police Department, Lorenzo Davis was taken into custody after a handgun he was reportedly showing off discharged and struck Kennedy Gilmore in the jaw during a gathering in the Frayser neighborhood. Rather than help the injured teen, Davis allegedly fled the scene.
The bullet caused severe trauma to Kennedy’s face. She was rushed to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Her jaw is now wired shut, leaving her unable to speak normally or eat solid food.
Davis faces a slew of charges, including:
- Reckless aggravated assault
- Child abuse and neglect
- Unlawful possession of a weapon
- Providing a handgun to a juvenile
- Evading arrest and resisting detention (from previous outstanding warrants)
He was arrested at a local Taco Bell and is currently being held on a $10,000 bond. Court proceedings are set to begin later this week.
The incident has deeply shaken the Frayser community. Friends, family, and neighbors have rallied around Kennedy, launching fundraising efforts to support her ongoing medical treatment and long-term recovery.
As police continue to investigate, community leaders are calling for increased gun safety awareness and accountability to prevent further tragedies involving firearms and minors.
