BLOWING ROCK, N.C. — A 66-year-old South Florida man, Barry Herbert Dubner of Parkland, tragically died Wednesday morning following a hiking accident in western North Carolina.
According to Blowing Rock Police, Dubner was hiking along the Glen Burney Trail when he fell down a steep embankment. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Dubner succumbed to his injuries.
The Glen Burney Trail, located in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains about two hours northwest of Charlotte, is known for its challenging terrain and is rated as a strenuous hike by the Blue Ridge Conservancy.
“Our thoughts are with Mr. Dubner’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” police said in a statement.
Dubner’s death comes just over a week after another Parkland resident, Lindsay Bashan, 33, died in a separate outdoor accident in Deschutes County, Oregon. Bashan was killed in a tubing accident after being swept over a waterfall.
Both incidents serve as somber reminders of the risks associated with outdoor recreation, even for experienced adventurers.
