Community Mourns Loss of 13-Year-Old Mason Kearns Following Tragic Flash Flood Incident

MOUNT AIRY, MD – The Mount Airy community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 13-year-old Mason Kearns, who tragically lost his life after being swept into a storm drain during Thursday’s flash floods.

Mount Airy Police confirmed Mason’s death, calling it a devastating outcome of the severe weather that impacted the region. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and neighbors reeling.

To honor Mason’s memory, his family will hold a candlelight vigil on Sunday at 8 p.m. at Watkins Park, located at 615 Center Street in Mount Airy. The community is invited to gather in remembrance and support, as they reflect on Mason’s life and offer comfort to his grieving loved ones.

In a show of solidarity, the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company has set up a donation box at their firehouse (702 N. Main Street) to help support the Kearns family during this difficult time. They are accepting monetary donations and gift cards to local restaurants and grocery stores. Due to logistical concerns, premade food items cannot be accepted.

Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover funeral expenses, with many already contributing to ease the financial burden on the family.

Mason is remembered as a bright, kind-hearted boy whose life was tragically cut short. The community’s outpouring of love is a testament to the impact he made in his 13 short years.

For those wishing to contribute or attend the vigil, more information is available through local community channels and the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company.
