Berkshire DA Identifies Worker in Tragic Jacob’s Pillow Accident as Production Manager Kat Sirico

BECKET, MA — The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office has officially identified the victim of a tragic workplace accident at Jacob’s Pillow as 40-year-old Kathryn “Kat” Sirico, a beloved Production Manager from Rochester, New York. The fatal incident occurred early Friday afternoon on the grounds of the historic dance center in Becket, Massachusetts.

According to the DA’s office, Sirico and a summer intern were transporting stage platforms using a dolly across the Jacob’s Pillow campus when the accident happened. While maneuvering downhill, they lost control of the dolly. In an attempt to stop it, Sirico tripped and fell. The dolly ran over her, and the stacked platforms fell, landing on her. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by bystanders and a rapid response from the Becket Police Department and Emergency Medical Services, Sirico was pronounced dead at the scene.

A thorough investigation was conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit. Officials have determined the incident to be a tragic workplace accident, and no criminal charges will be filed.

The accident has sent shockwaves through both the local community and the wider performing arts world. Jacob’s Pillow, a nationally recognized institution for dance and performance, canceled all scheduled performances on Friday in response to the tragedy. The organization and festival attendees are mourning the sudden loss of a dedicated and highly respected member of their production team.

Jacob’s Pillow, a 200-acre National Historic Landmark, was founded in 1931 by dance pioneer Ted Shawn. It has grown into one of the most revered dance institutions in the country, offering a summer festival, residencies, and performances that draw artists and audiences from around the world.
