Santa Rosa County Woman Killed in Pinto Avenue Shooting; Suspect in Custody

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, FL – Authorities in Santa Rosa County are investigating a tragic shooting that left one woman dead and led to the arrest of a suspect.

On the evening of August 1, 2025, deputies from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire on Pinto Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Barbara Dedert deceased at the scene, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The area was immediately secured, and the Major Crimes Unit launched a full investigation. Through the course of their inquiry, investigators identified 47-year-old Curtis Marvin Johnson as the primary suspect in the case.

Johnson has since been arrested and is currently being held at the Santa Rosa County Jail on charges of Second-Degree Murder.
