Teen Killed in Shooting at Family Dollar Store on Indianapolis’ North Side

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — A tragic act of violence took the life of a teen identified only as Scotty on Saturday evening, following a shooting inside a Family Dollar store located in the 6000 block of Michigan Road on Indianapolis’ north side.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting at the discount retailer. Upon arrival, police found Scotty lying near one of the store’s doorways with gunshot wounds. Medics responded swiftly and attempted life-saving measures, but the young victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigation suggests the shooting resulted from a disturbance involving multiple individuals who were believed to know each other. IMPD officials confirmed that the gunfire erupted inside the store while it remained open to the public. Fortunately, no other shoppers were injured during the incident, though many were left visibly shaken.

Family and friends of the victim began arriving at the store shortly after the shooting, visibly distraught. IMPD’s Victim Assistance Unit and chaplains were on hand to support those grieving the sudden and tragic loss.

“Once again, violence has interrupted what would’ve been a beautiful Saturday here in Indianapolis,” said IMPD Public Information Officer Drew Brown. “Another neighborhood is hurting, another family is grieving. Our hearts are with that family.”

IMPD homicide detectives, along with the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency and the Marion County Coroner’s Office, are working diligently to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Family Dollar is reportedly cooperating fully with law enforcement.

The suspected shooter(s) have not yet been apprehended. However, police believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).
