DETROIT, MI — A heartbreaking act of violence unfolded on Detroit’s West Side Sunday evening, as a 15-year-old boy was fatally shot and his 13-year-old sister injured in a shooting that has left the community shaken.
According to the Detroit Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 5:30 p.m. in the 13300 block of Mark Twain Street, near Schoolcraft and Grand River Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the teenage boy suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His younger sister, 13, also sustained gunshot wounds but was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Her condition is currently stable.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released. Authorities have not confirmed the motive behind the shooting and are still working to determine whether the two were targeted or caught in crossfire.
Investigators are actively canvassing the area for surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses to piece together the events that led to the violence. No arrests have been made as of Monday morning.
