Omaha, NE — A tragic shooting early Monday morning has left one man dead and two others critically injured near the intersection of North 24th Street and Patrick Avenue, amid festivities for Native Omaha Days.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Chance McCowin. Emergency responders administered CPR while transporting him to the hospital, but despite their efforts, McCowin was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to investigators.
Two additional victims, 32-year-old Dontavis Montgomery and 24-year-old Tai’Jianea Henderson, were also struck by gunfire. Omaha police have confirmed both individuals are now in stable condition.
Authorities were called to the scene shortly after midnight following reports of shots fired. Preliminary findings suggest the shooting stemmed from a confrontation during the crowded event.
“If your loved ones are present in this area, please advise them to return home,” urged Omaha Police Captain Ken Fox during a briefing. “Ensure that your loved ones are safely at home.”
No suspects have been identified at this time, and the investigation remains active. Police are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to contact Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP (7867). All tips can be submitted anonymously.
