ISLES OF SHOALS, N.H. – Authorities have launched a death investigation after the body of a Massachusetts man was discovered floating in the Atlantic Ocean near the Isles of Shoals earlier this month.
According to the New Hampshire State Police, marine patrol officers responded to the area on July 13, where they recovered the body of David Paul Stover Shader, a 35-year-old Boston resident, from the water.
The Isles of Shoals—a remote cluster of nine small, rocky islands situated about six miles off the coasts of New Hampshire and Maine—served as the backdrop for the unsettling discovery.
The New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office, working alongside state police, confirmed Shader’s identity and is continuing to assist with the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Authorities noted that Shader was last seen in the Boston area, and at this time, his death is not considered suspicious. However, the timeline and manner in which he ended up in the ocean remain unclear.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have seen Shader in the days leading up to July 13 or who has relevant information to assist in the case to contact Sergeant Stephen O’Connor at 603-556-3183.
As the investigation continues, friends, family, and the greater Boston community mourn the loss of a young man whose life came to a tragic and mysterious end far from home.
