Edward Parker and Ashim Heanacho Identified as Victims in Fatal Lexington Library Shooting

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has identified Edward Parker, 52, and Ashim Heanacho, 71, as the two men shot and killed early Saturday morning outside the Northside Branch of the Lexington Public Library on Russell Cave Road.

The deadly incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, August 2. When officers arrived at the scene, they found both Parker and Heanacho suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Deborah Weiss, 69, was arrested at the location and has been charged with two counts of murder, according to the Lexington Police Department. An arrest citation states that Weiss admitted to shooting both men. She is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center on a $1 million bond. Court records show Weiss has no prior criminal history in Kentucky. She is scheduled for arraignment in Fayette District Court on Monday afternoon.

Authorities have not released details regarding the motive or the nature of the relationship between Weiss and the victims. The case remains under active investigation.

This double homicide marks the 14th and 15th killings in Lexington so far this year, a significant rise compared to the same time in previous years—eight in 2024 and 13 in 2023.

The community is left mourning the loss of two lives and grappling with a growing concern over the increase in violent crime. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Lexington Police or Bluegrass Crime Stoppers at 859-253-2020.
