CLAIBORNE PARISH, La. – A single-vehicle crash in Claiborne Parish has claimed the life of 68-year-old Michael Coleman of Homer, according to the Louisiana State Police.
The fatal crash occurred around 2:00 p.m. on August 3, 2025, on Louisiana Highway 2, near Liberty Hill Road. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Coleman was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero eastbound on LA Hwy 2 when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle veered off the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and struck a tree.
Tragically, Coleman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Claiborne Parish Coroner’s Office.
Although impairment is not suspected, authorities collected routine toxicology samples for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
Troopers continue to urge all drivers and passengers to always wear seat belts. “While not all crashes are survivable, wearing a seat belt significantly increases your chances of avoiding serious injury or death,” said Trooper Eddie Thomas of the Louisiana State Police Public Affairs Section – Troop G.
Louisiana law requires every occupant in a vehicle, regardless of their seat position, to be properly restrained at all times.
