Man Drowns in Kings River Near Winton Park, Marking Fifth Fresno County Waterway Death in 2025

FRESNO COUNTY, CA — A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon as a man in his 30s drowned in the Kings River near Winton Park, according to local authorities. The drowning marks the fifth water-related fatality in Fresno County so far in 2025.

Officials say the man had been enjoying the river with friends when he entered the water and began to struggle. Bystanders attempted to assist but were unable to reach him in time. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene and located the victim’s body a short time later.

Despite rescue efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and water rescue teams have since issued renewed warnings about the dangerous conditions along local waterways. Even in the summer months, strong currents, cold water temperatures, and hidden underwater hazards continue to pose serious risks to swimmers, particularly those without life jackets or water safety training.

With five drownings already reported this year, officials are urging residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution while recreating near rivers and lakes.

The investigation into the exact circumstances of the drowning is ongoing. Authorities have not indicated whether alcohol or other factors may have played a role.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
