MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. ā The victim in a deadly hit-and-run early Sunday morning has been identified as Dezhon Overton, 26, of Kansas City. His tragic and sudden death has left both the Myrtle Beach community and loved ones in Missouri devastated.
According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Kings Highway and 21st Avenue North around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, first responders found Overton unresponsive in the roadway with severe injuries consistent with being hit at a high speed.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Overton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and are actively searching for the driver involved. No vehicle description has been released at this time, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
