Winston-Salem Mourns the Tragic Loss of Destiny Quiterio, 17, in Triple Homicide

WINSTON-SALEM, NC — A quiet Saturday morning turned into a nightmare for residents of Cameron Avenue as a devastating act of violence claimed the lives of three young individuals, including 17-year-old Destiny Quiterio.

Winston-Salem Police responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 1:40 a.m. on August 2. Upon arrival at the scene, they found three individuals—ages 17, 18, and 23—suffering from gunshot wounds outside a residence. Tragically, all three were pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders.

Destiny Quiterio, the youngest of the victims, has been identified by her heartbroken family. Described as vibrant, loving, and full of potential, Destiny’s death has left a void in her family and the community that will never be filled.

Longtime residents of Cameron Avenue, some of whom have lived in the neighborhood for decades, say they’ve seen violence before—but nothing of this scale. One neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, shared the heartbreak of witnessing the scene unfold, recalling the police lights, the growing crowd, and the gut-wrenching moment she learned three lives had been lost.

“This is the worst I’ve ever witnessed,” she said, fighting back tears. “These kids didn’t deserve this.”

Authorities believe a gathering was taking place at the home when the gunfire erupted. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Destiny Quiterio’s name will not be forgotten. May she rest in peace.
