Tragic Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of 51-Year-Old Man in Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas — A devastating motorcycle crash on Saturday afternoon has claimed the life of a 51-year-old man and left another individual hospitalized.

According to Sergeant Chris Williamson of the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. along US Highway 69 as a group of motorcyclists traveled northbound through Cherokee County. One of the motorcycles reportedly lost control, ejecting both the driver and a passenger.

The driver, identified as Owen O’Neal, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The condition of the passenger, who was also taken to the hospital, remains unknown at this time.

Fellow riders told authorities that O’Neal’s motorcycle experienced a “death wobble” — a sudden and violent shaking of the front handlebars that can cause the rider to lose control.

The crash remains under active investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety as they work to determine the exact cause of the tragic incident.

Owen O’Neal’s passing marks a heartbreaking loss for his loved ones and the riding community.
