Tragedy struck on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Tuesday morning as 47-year-old Alassane Tohandikou lost his life following a series of events that began with a hit-and-run crash. The Illinois State Police reported that the incident occurred in the outbound lanes near 95th Street.
Tohandikou was driving a passenger vehicle when he was struck by another car that fled the scene. In the aftermath of the collision, he exited his vehicle. While outside, he was hit by a passing vehicle, resulting in critical injuries.
Emergency responders quickly arrived and transported Tohandikou to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified him.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Tohandikou also sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Their current condition has not been released.
Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding both the hit-and-run and the fatal second collision. No arrests have been announced at this time. The loss of Alassane Tohandikou has left loved ones mourning a life cut tragically short in an unexpected and heartbreaking incident.
