Brent Gunnels Obituary: Beloved Chef at The W Dies in Tragic Crash in Cass County

FREEMAN, MO – The Cass County community and the culinary world are mourning the untimely death of Brent Gunnels, a talented chef at The W in Lee’s Summit, who tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2 a.m. on August 3 along Missouri Highway 2, just east of 263rd Street in Freeman. Gunnels was driving a 2007 Subaru westbound when his vehicle veered off the right side of the road, traveled up an embankment, went airborne, struck a rock bluff, and overturned before coming to a stop upright.

Despite efforts to save him, Brent Gunnels was pronounced dead later that morning around 7 a.m., authorities said. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office confirmed his identity and stated that his family has been notified.
