COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Colorado Springs community is grieving the tragic and senseless loss of Jacob Martinez, a 35-year-old man who was fatally struck in a suspected road rage incident on July 24, 2025.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), Martinez was run over by a vehicle following a confrontation on the roadway. Surveillance footage from the scene showed Martinez exiting his car and standing in the street when he was deliberately hit by the suspect’s vehicle. The driver then fled the scene, leaving Martinez critically injured.
Martinez was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries three days later, on July 27. CSPD launched an intensive investigation, which led to the arrest of 39-year-old Daniel Nations two weeks after the incident.
Authorities reported that Nations was found in possession of the vehicle involved in the fatal crash. He now faces serious charges in connection to Martinez’s death.
Nations has a lengthy criminal history, including a 2017 conviction for threatening hikers on Mount Herman Road in Monument. He was also arrested that same year in Woodland Park for illegal possession of a firearm. In addition, he is a registered sex offender, stemming from a 2006 case in South Carolina where he reportedly engaged in lewd behavior in a Walmart parking lot.
Jacob Martinez is remembered by friends, family, and coworkers as a kind-hearted individual who was deeply loved by those around him. His tragic death has left a profound void in the lives of many, and the community is calling for justice in his memory.
As the legal process unfolds, the Martinez family continues to mourn a life taken too soon due to a senseless act of violence. May Jacob Martinez rest in peace, and may his family find strength and comfort in the support surrounding them.
