WILKES COUNTY, NC – The community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 14-year-old Trenton Anderson, who tragically passed away days after a two-vehicle crash in Western North Carolina. The collision occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, July 26, along Highway 21 near South Center Church Road in Wilkes County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Trenton was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Samuel Nelson when the car collided with a northbound Dodge Ram 3500. Investigators said Nelson failed to reduce his speed and struck the truck from behind.
Both Nelson and Anderson were transported to nearby hospitals following the crash. While Nelson sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Anderson was critically injured and tragically succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, July 30.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was unharmed, though a passenger in that truck was treated for minor injuries.
As a result of the crash, Samuel Nelson is now facing several charges, including:
- Misdemeanor death by vehicle
- Careless and reckless driving
- Failure to reduce speed
- Failure to secure a juvenile passenger
