CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. – A devastating head-on collision Monday morning has claimed the lives of two Canton residents, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 8:18 a.m. to reports of a crash on Fate Conn Road, just west of Ball Ground Highway. A preliminary investigation revealed that a BMW SUV crossed the center line and struck a Ford Mustang in a violent head-on impact.
The driver of the Ford Mustang, 18-year-old Luke Burgess of Canton, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the BMW, 67-year-old Frank Coe, also of Canton, was transported to Kennestone Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details at this time.
“This is a heartbreaking and tragic accident. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of those involved,” said Sheriff Frank Reynolds in an official statement.
The Cherokee County community is mourning the loss of both individuals as investigators work to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
