Dallas, TX — An investigation is underway following the sudden and tragic death of 17-year-old Roy Hughes, a senior at Lincoln High School, who was found unresponsive Friday afternoon.

Dallas police say they responded to the 1800 block of West Mockingbird Lane shortly after noon, where they discovered Hughes unresponsive. Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived on scene and pronounced him deceased.

According to family and friends, Hughes had attended track practice earlier that morning. After returning home, he laid down for a nap and never woke up.

The cause of his passing remains unknown. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Hughes was remembered by classmates, teachers, and coaches as a dedicated athlete with a bright future. His passing has left the Lincoln High School community in shock and mourning.

A memorial balloon release in his honor will take place on Sunday, August 10, at 3 p.m. at Lincoln High School, where friends, family, and community members will gather to celebrate his life and legacy.
