Authorities have identified Anastazia Hitz as the bicyclist who died following a tragic accident in Pompano Beach on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Northeast 14th Street Causeway. Detectives say a Ford F-450 truck, which was towing a boat, swerved sharply to the right to avoid a bicyclist who was crossing the road illegally. The sudden maneuver caused the boat trailer to detach from the truck and roll into a nearby business parking lot, striking two parked cars.
Hitz was transported by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue to Broward Health North, where she was later pronounced dead.
Investigators have determined that speed, impairment, and mechanical failure were not factors in the collision. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
