Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred last Thursday morning west of Scottsbluff. The Nebraska State Patrol confirmed that 83-year-old Lyle Downs of Scottsbluff lost his life in the collision.
According to the NSP, Downs was driving a Chevy Colorado when it was struck broadside by a Mazda CX-7 at the intersection of Highway 26 and County Road 20. Preliminary investigations revealed that the Chevy was stopped on the county road at the intersection before proceeding in front of the Mazda traveling on Highway 26.
The driver of the Mazda sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated accordingly.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather information.
