A heartbreaking incident occurred early Sunday morning on eastbound I-696 near Hoover Road in Warren, where 29-year-old Nateria Smith was fatally struck by a vehicle.
According to relatives, Nateria had run out of gas and left her vehicle to get fuel. Tragically, while walking back to her car, she was hit by a car before reaching safety. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The driver responsible fled the scene, and Warren police have since taken over the investigation. Authorities confirmed their response to the fatal crash and have indicated that more details will be released on Monday.
