Authorities have released the identities of the couple killed in a suspected murder-suicide Saturday night in Clarkston.
According to the Asotin County Sheriff’s Office, Sergio Hernandez, 37, fatally shot his partner, Eliza Elias, 32, multiple times before taking his own life inside their home in the 1200 block of Boston Street. First responders arrived to find both deceased at the scene.
The couple’s two young children, ages 1 and 3, were inside the home at the time, along with their great-grandmother, who was caring for them. None of them were physically harmed. A firearm was recovered, and investigators believe Hernandez acted alone. The motive remains unknown, and the case is still under investigation.
Sheriff John Hildebrand confirmed that detectives are working to determine what led to the tragedy. The children are now in the care of their great-grandparents. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support their upbringing, raising over $6,700 of its $20,000 goal as of Monday evening.
Elias, a licensed vocational nurse, dedicated more than a decade to working as a case manager for a home health care company until June 2024, according to her LinkedIn profile. Publicly available information on Hernandez is limited, though his Facebook page indicates the two had been in a relationship since May 2024.
This heartbreaking loss has left the Clarkston community mourning and rallying to support the surviving children.
