Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who lost his life in a tragic crash near an Interstate 5 interchange in Tacoma as 51-year-old Shane Ashlock of Tacoma.

According to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office, Ashlock died from multiple blunt-force injuries sustained in the collision. His death has been ruled an accident.

The fatal crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. on August 5, when Ashlock was riding southbound on the ramp from Interstate 705. A Washington State Patrol report indicates he struck a barrier on the right shoulder just before the roadway splits toward the state Route 7 extension and northbound Interstate 5.

The impact caused the motorcycle to come to rest between the right lane and right shoulder, blocking traffic. The two right lanes remained closed for 2 hours and 39 minutes as troopers investigated and cleared the scene.

Ashlock’s sudden passing has left friends, family, and the Tacoma community in mourning. Loved ones remember him as someone who enjoyed the open road and the freedom of riding, a passion that ultimately became part of his final moments.

The Washington State Patrol continues to review details surrounding the crash to determine any contributing factors.
