A tragic shooting in Washington, D.C.’s Logan Circle neighborhood on Monday evening has claimed the life of 33-year-old Tymark Wells, a Northwest D.C. resident, and sparked an active manhunt for the suspect, officials said.
The incident occurred around 6:56 p.m. in the 1200 block of 12th Street NW. Responding to reports of gunfire, police found Wells unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the swift efforts of D.C. Fire and EMS to save him, Wells was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Authorities have described the suspect as a man wearing a black shirt and carrying a rifle. Police have not released any information regarding the motive or any possible connection between Wells and the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
The shooting came amid heightened attention on crime reduction efforts in the city, including a new federal initiative announced just hours earlier. However, law enforcement officials stressed there is no known link between the shooting and any political events or figures.
As a precaution, the U.S. Secret Service temporarily closed fence lines around the White House and Ellipse, though no direct threat was identified. Increased police presence has been deployed in Logan Circle while detectives gather evidence and interview witnesses.
Wells’ death is a somber reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by gun violence, despite recent overall declines in violent crime across the city. The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department remains committed to solving the case and bringing justice to the community.
Anyone with tips can contact the D.C. police tip line. A reward may be offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. No arrests have been made at this time.
