LINCOLN COUNTY, W.Va — Authorities have confirmed the victim involved in a July shooting in Lincoln County has tragically passed away.
According to the West Virginia State Police (WVSP), the incident occurred shortly after midnight on July 27 in the Big Ugly area. Reports indicate that the suspect approached what they believed to be a suspicious vehicle parked in their mother’s driveway, sparking a physical confrontation between the suspect and the victim.
The altercation escalated when the suspect reportedly shot the victim while they were inside the vehicle. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to CAMC, where they were placed on life support but were taken off the following day.
The WVSP Hamlin Detachment previously released footage showing a vehicle believed to be carrying potential witnesses who passed the scene. Investigators have since identified and interviewed the individual they were seeking.
The investigation remains active and is expected to be forwarded to a prosecuting attorney for review as authorities continue to gather evidence.
