BATTLE CREEK, MI — Tragedy struck Battle Creek earlier this month when 18-year-old high school senior Daelnn Roark lost their life in a devastating car crash at Irving Park on July 14. The incident also left a female passenger with serious injuries.

Authorities have formally charged Gavin Christopher Scott, 18, in connection with the crash. Scott faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence causing death, reckless driving causing fatality, driving under the influence causing significant harm, and reckless driving resulting in severe bodily injury.

According to the Battle Creek Police Department, Scott reportedly lost control of the vehicle during hazardous maneuvering, leading to the ejection of all occupants. Roark tragically did not survive the collision.

Scott is scheduled to appear in court on August 26 for a probable cause hearing, followed by a preliminary examination on September 2.

The community mourns the loss of Daelnn Roark, a promising young life cut short, while authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
