San Antonio, TX — Authorities have arrested 18-year-old Fernando Flores in connection with the April shooting death of 14-year-old Simon Cuevas, a student of the San Antonio Independent School District. Flores faces charges of capital murder in the tragic case.
According to police reports, Cuevas was discovered suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen at the intersection of South Elmendorf Street and Merida Street on April 16. He was rushed to a hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries. Investigators say the attack involved several individuals who assaulted Cuevas, with one suspect discharging a firearm. Surveillance footage reportedly showed the suspects following Cuevas as he left school.
Authorities indicate that the group coordinated the assault, and after the shooting, they fled the scene. A suspect’s mother was captured on surveillance footage driving the group and later identified one of the suspects. Additional witnesses, including school staff, helped identify other individuals from the video.
Tips submitted to Crime Stoppers and information from the public played a key role in identifying Flores, who allegedly confessed to the shooting. Evidence recovered included a brown hoodie matching the clothing Flores wore during the incident.
One of the other suspects involved in the assault has not yet been positively identified. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to seek justice for Simon Cuevas.
This heartbreaking incident has left the San Antonio community mourning the loss of a young life and calling for accountability in the fatal attack.
