CLAIRTON, PA — The second death linked to the devastating blast at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works has been confirmed. Steven Menefee, 52, of East Huntingdon Township, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office. His body was recovered from the wreckage following the powerful explosion.

The incident also claimed the life of 39-year-old Timothy Quinn, another East Huntingdon Township resident. The blast left ten others injured, with three individuals currently hospitalized. In response, the USW Local 1557 union has set up a fundraising page to support the affected families.

The initial explosion occurred around 10:50 a.m. on Monday, triggering a series of smaller explosions and sending shockwaves through the surrounding community. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the catastrophic event.

The tragedy has deeply impacted the local community, and support efforts continue for those affected by the disaster.
