25-Year-Old Amanda “Manda” Shot and Killed in South Side Double Shooting, Suspect in Custody

CHICAGO — A 25-year-old woman, identified by family and friends as Amanda, also known as “Manda,” was shot and killed in a double shooting late Friday night on the South Side, police said.

The incident happened around 11:56 p.m. on August 29, 2025, in the 7700 block of South Essex Avenue. Chicago police responded to reports of two people shot and, upon arrival, discovered the front door of a home open. Officers entered and found Amanda inside suffering from two gunshot wounds to the abdomen and one to the leg.

She was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Police also found a 23-year-old woman inside the home with two gunshot wounds to the leg and one to the knee. She was transported to the hospital in fair condition, according to officials.

Witnesses reported that a known female suspect fled the scene on foot and was believed to have discarded the weapon. A K-9 unit was brought in to search the area.

Chicago police later confirmed that the female offender is now in custody. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
