Chillicothe Man Dies in Hit-Skip Crash on SR 159

ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A 35-year-old Chillicothe man has died after being struck by a vehicle on State Route 159 early Friday morning, August 29, 2025, authorities reported.

Troopers from the Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the incident occurred around 5:44 a.m. Preliminary investigation indicates that Bruce M. Hardesty, 28, of Chillicothe, was southbound in a dark blue 2008 Chevrolet Uplander when he struck a pedestrian, identified as Frankie J. Bostwick, 35, of Chillicothe. Hardesty left the scene, abandoning his vehicle near 221 N. Bridge St. in Chillicothe.

Bostwick was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Hardesty was later located and is currently incarcerated at the Ross County Law Enforcement Complex.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Chillicothe Police Department, Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Chillicothe Fire Department, and the Ohio Department of Transportation. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
