Fatal Head-On Collision in Alexander County Claims Life of Teen Driver

HIDDENITE, N.C. — A 17-year-old driver was killed in a head-on crash Saturday morning, August 30, 2025, in Alexander County. The accident occurred around 10:50 a.m. on Sharpe Mill Road near Johnson Farm Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers say a 1991 Chevrolet S-10, driven by Jacob Elijah Huffman, 17, of Hiddenite, crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2000 Ford Ranger. Huffman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

The Ford Ranger’s driver, Kimberly Smith Bebber, 56, of Taylorsville, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators determined that neither speed nor impairment played a role in the crash, and no charges will be filed. Sharpe Mill Road was shut down for about two hours while troopers investigated.

Authorities expressed condolences to Huffman’s family as the community mourns the tragic loss.
