Police Identify Family in Catonsville Double Murder-Suicide

CATONSVILLE, Md. — The Baltimore County Police Department has identified a family as the victims in a tragic Thursday shooting in Catonsville, now being investigated as a double murder-suicide.

Officers responded to the 740 block of Wiltton Farm Drive on Thursday afternoon for a “check on subject” call and discovered 42-year-old Chantel Sharieff and her 6-year-old daughter, Kimana Sharieff. Police said Kimana sustained an apparent gunshot wound, while Chantel suffered from what authorities described as “apparent trauma.” Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third individual, 43-year-old Mustafa Sharieff, was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and is identified by police as the suspect in the case.

Chantel’s mother, Shirley Naylor, confirmed the victims were her daughter and granddaughter. “She just went into the first grade this year. I just had her over my house last week. Chantel came over to pick Kimana up, and the last thought I have of them is them leaving my house, telling me they loved me,” Naylor said.

The family also indicated that Chantel Sharieff had been seeking to remove herself from a dangerous situation. Court records show she filed for divorce on August 18, shortly before the incident.
