According to the university, the incident was reported near the Main Library, prompting immediate safety alerts to students, faculty, and staff. Campus police urged everyone to avoid the area and shelter in place as officers worked to secure the scene.
The report comes on the eve of UGA’s highly anticipated football season opener against Marshall, scheduled for Saturday in Athens. With thousands of fans already arriving from across the state and beyond, concerns over safety are heightened.
