Pontiac, Mich. — A devastating crash in Pontiac on the evening of August 29 claimed the lives of three people, including two young children. At approximately 8:20 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Montcalm Road and Joslyn Road after multiple 911 callers reported a vehicle had gone airborne and a juvenile may have been ejected.
Preliminary reports indicate a 2022 Honda Civic, driven southbound by a 21-year-old Pontiac resident, crossed into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons and left the roadway. The vehicle struck several signs and poles before colliding with a 2025 Chevrolet Malibu stopped at a red light.
The driver of the Malibu, 37, and two passengers, a 6-year-old and a 4-year-old, were pronounced dead. A third child, 9, remains in critical condition at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital. The Honda driver is hospitalized in stable condition.
Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard expressed his condolences: “This unimaginable tragedy has taken the lives of a parent and two young children. Our investigators will work tirelessly to determine the full circumstances of this incident.” Speed is believed to be a factor, with alcohol or drugs still under investigation.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office continues to lead the investigation.
