USF Shooting Today – Police Respond to Incident at Tampa Campus Library

TAMPA, Fla. — Heavy police presence was reported at the University of South Florida’s Tampa campus Friday afternoon after authorities responded to reports of shots fired at the USF Library. The incident prompted an emergency evacuation of the building as law enforcement rushed to secure the scene.

Witnesses described a tense situation as officers entered the library with weapons drawn and moved upstairs. Students and staff in the student commons were quickly escorted outside to safety. A helicopter was also deployed to provide aerial support while police surrounded the building.

“I’m not 100% sure what is going on. All of a sudden, police showed up with guns out and headed up the stairs,” one student said after being evacuated. “I’m parked far enough away now to feel safe and close enough to see. I’m shook up, but I’m safe.”

At this time, USF Police have not confirmed the nature of the threat or whether a suspect has been located. No injuries have been reported. The library and nearby areas remain secured as a precaution, and officials are urging students and faculty to avoid the area until further notice.

This is a developing story. More updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
