Woman Fatally Shot at Galleon House Hotel; Homicide Investigation Underway

St. Thomas, VI — Authorities in St. Thomas are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman discovered Friday morning at the Galleon House Hotel. The victim, identified by next of kin as 42-year-old Maireni Heredia Tiburcio, sustained at least one gunshot wound to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Central Dispatch received reports of an unresponsive female at approximately 11:48 a.m. on August 29. Responding officers found Tiburcio with visible injuries, and emergency medical personnel confirmed she had no vital signs. She was officially pronounced dead at about 12:26 p.m.

The Virgin Islands Police Department’s Major Crimes Division is leading the investigation and has called for public assistance. Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward.
